Catalyst Business

    In the Catalyst Business, the Company manufactures and sells catalysts used in producing polypropylene. The main product is the Toho High-efficiency Catalyst (THC). It has a number of marked characteristics, such as superior polymerization activity and a wide variety of quality grades, permitting application to a diverse range of polypropylene manufacturing processes, and boasts global-class performance and quality. Products manufactured by the Company are sold to a large number of polypropylene manufacturers in Japan and overseas. With their stellar performance, they have earned an unequalled reputation for reliability among users.

Catalysts THC - setting the highest global standards for Mg-Ti high-performance catalysts.

    Toho High-efficiency Catalyst (THC), which is the strategic product in the catalyst business, is a magnesium-titanium type of high-performance catalyst that is used in the manufacture of polyolefins such as polypropylene (PP). PP is indispensable as a fundamental material in the manufacture of a broad array of products that are part of everyday life from household goods and appliances to automobile interior/exterior décor. THC catalyst is the key to the achievement of desirable PP properties such as rigidity, impact resistance and crystallinity, which determine the characteristics and functions of PP, and ultimately its overall quality. There are three basic application processes for PP manufacture: gas, bulk and slurry methods processes. While each requires a catalyst with different characteristics, THC catalysts offer a selection of grades that can be used for any of these processes. Meeting world-class performance standards and serving as the most important factor in the PP quality and performance equation, THC catalysts have earned the confidence and praise of PP manufacturers around the globe.

Scope of Application

    Applications of PP penetrate every part of life, ranging from basic fabricated products such as injection molded goods, film/packaging material, textiles and non-woven fabric to household appliance housings and household products such as carpets and apparel storage cases, as well as medical equipment. Serving as a single convenient source for the R&D, manufacturing and sale of catalysts, the Company is equipped to meet the broad scope of PP applications with a tailor-made approach to catalyst development and production that precisely responds to the distinctive needs of each PP manufacturer.

THC Catalyst Characteristics

    THC catalyst, which is one of our key products, possesses the following characteristics, which are remarkable among currently available mainstream third-generation catalysts, and boasts global-class performance and quality.

    In addition, the Company originally develops and manufactures catalysts within itself, enabling the timely supply of products that ideally match the needs of each customer's plant and deliver maximum performance. This policy of tailor-made development and production - combined with thorough support — ensure that we provide a comprehensive response to the unique demands of each customer. Expressed in extreme terms, this means that the Company could supply 1,000 different grades of catalysts to 1,000 companies.

    A-type Granular form
    THC-A: PP powder obtained through slurry
                 polymerization on a laboratory scale basis.

    C-type Spherical form
    THC-C: PP powder obtained through bulk
                 polymerization on a laboratory scale basis.

Automotive
 
High-performance PP is utilized in various body parts for automobiles including instrument panels, bumpers, etc.
Medical
 
The manufacture of high-function masks, medical wear, and other medical instruments and equipment relies on PP.

PP is also used in housings/casings for home appliances.


Containers
 
Injection-molded PP containers are widely used in every part of home and work life.


Film (Wrapping, packaging)
 
PP is widely used in wrapping and packaging film, including packaging of confectionary, ultra thin film wrapping of cigarettes, etc.
